Students can use the following mnemonics to help them learn the planets of the solar system in their correct order from the Sun.

The first letter in each word of these sentences stand for the first letter of the planets of the solar system:

    Until 1999 (when Neptune was the outermost planet)

  • Mary's Violet Eyes Made John Sit Up Proposing Nicely
  • My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Peanuts and Nuts

    After 1999 (when Pluto is the outermost planet of the solar system)

    Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto
